Traid Community School in Illinois has invoked State law for the following:

I think as long as the passwords are handled responsibly by the school boards this should be OK. Afterall the school children are under 18 years of age (somemay be more in the highest grade) and we have laws protecting them from drinking and smoking.
Why not for handing over the password?
